Title Web Developer (Front-end)
Information

Responsibilities

Are you constantly dreaming up fun web projects and trying out the latest trends in web technologies? Do you enjoy pushing the limits of JavaScript and manipulating the DOM to your will? Have you developed a love/hate relationship with various scripting languages and web MVC frameworks?

Loopt is seeking creative and motivated client-side web developers to rapidly define and implement fun new features for Loopt’s web experience.

Experience

  • JavaScript (OOP, AJAX & DOM): a lot of the Loopt web experience comes to life with client-side javascript, so extensive experience is a must-have.
  • HTML and CSS: a good sense of web UI design and the ability to implement it across the various browsers is key!
  • Ruby On Rails: we are currently moving our core web app from ASP.NET to Ruby On Rails. We are pretty excited about it, hopefully you are too! Experience with a comparable web MVC framework is okay, but willingness to learn Ruby and Rails is essential.
  • 2+ years working on professional or personal web application projects

Bonus

  • Drupal/PHP: we use the Drupal CMS for a portion of the live website.
  • Google Maps API or Virtual Earth SDK: we will make heavy use of javascript mapping APIs (some in Flash as well).
  • Mobile Web: we will continue to extend our website to work on various mobile phones. Some experience with web development on the iPhone, Smartphones, etc. using iUI, XHTML Mobile, WML, etc. would be niiice.
  • Flex: we use Flex for our current widget and will continue to develop it along with new ones.
  • ASP.NET, C#: experience with these technologies will give you more control of every project you work on because a lot of the Loopt’s core server logic is written in C#.

Title Server Engineer
Information

Work on the services that power Loopt’s website and mobile clients. Make new features possible. Integrate with custom services provided by Carriers, Data Providers (like Facebook and Yelp), and service providers (like SMS aggregators). Expose clean interfaces and hide complexity.

You must:

  • Understand how computers, algorithms, memory, concurrency and data structures work. Be able to use and debug them.
  • Be willing and able to learn new things every day.
  • Have opinions. Be willing to voice and defend them.
  • Be confident enough to ask questions and challenge false assumptions.
  • Be creative! Be ready to face challenges that don’t have obvious solutions.
  • Have a degree in Computer Science or a related field.

We’d like you to have experience with:

  • SQL We use MSSQL and a little PgSQL. You’ll need to be able to write efficient queries and design schemata.
  • C# Most of Loopt’s server runs in the CLR. If you know Java you’ll do fine.
  • Security and encryption Know how to protect against impersonation, replay, and private data leakage. Understand how to store, transmit and protect sensitive information. Be able to identify, exploit, and eliminate edge cases and invalid assumptions.
  • HTTP You should be familiar with everything from the protocol to SSL to tcp and sockets.

Bonus:

  • ASP.NET experience. Understand the page lifecycle and how handlers, modules, viewstate and user controls work.
  • Experience with Erlang, Java, and/or PHP.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux native programming.

Title Mobile Engineer
Information

You must:

Title User Visual Experience Designer
Information

We are looking for a passionate designer with excellent skills in graphic design, a good sense of composition, color, and style.  You must have a deep appreciation for simple and intuitive, usable interfaces.

Responsibility will be focused on all stages of design for Loopt applications on various mobile devices.  Therefore, you must be able to juggle multiple projects while executing with great attention to detail.

  • Your goal is to create a look consistent with all of Loopt’s products while engaging users.
  • You must have the ability to successfully collaborate with marketing, engineering, the product team, and Creative Director to develop innovative, user-friendly, top notch applications that add to the Loopt brand.
  • The ideal candidate for this position possesses a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, absolute comfort working with Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and proven expertise in designing for the Web.  

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS In Graphic Design/Visual Design
  • At least 3 years experience designing web-based products including design experience for mobile applications
  • A strong portfolio that showcases your work (inclusion of early iterations a plus)
  • Expert in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Demonstrate fluency with Flash, HTML, and mobile application developer tools
  • Must be a self-motivated, proactive, effective problem solver who can prioritize and manage a work load and meet critical project milestones and deadlines
  • A professional who can deliver on a tight schedule
  • Must have excellent personal skills, the ability to collaborate within a small team, and is comfortable working in a loosely structured, but highly dynamic organization

Title Quality Assurance Server Engineer
Information

We’re seeking a motivated QA Server Engineer that is passionate about finding bugs and has a good understanding of testing methodologies. We’re looking for someone that is able to learn from his/her mistakes and is excited about working on products that are used by millions of users.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, develop, and execute functional and automated test cases
  • Work closely with internal teams to understand architecture, technology and product requirements for existing and new functionality
  • Submit bug reports and verify fixes
  • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment

 Requirements:
